Commitment
Since its opening, Hotel Castel has upheld strong values. Social and environmental responsibility is the main pillar of the business philosophy and comes first before popular trends.Along with the support given to many organisms and events like the Centre d'action bénévole de Granby, Oasis Santé mentale, Héma-Québec, the Red Cross, les Corps de Cadets de Granby, Le Passant organism and the Festival International de la Chanson de Granby, management and staff are very keen to the environment's protection and it shows in everyday's actions.

Our business's environmental management
A Green committee was created in 2010 to ensure a better cohesion between all departments in order to continue and improve the ecological performances of the Hotel.
Hotel suppliers are chosen according to their environmental policies and those who are located nearby are preferred to reduce the impact of long-distance transportation.
Unused or old material (televisions, mattress, furniture) is given to employees or charitable organizations.

Examples:
- Chairs were given to the Roger Talbot foundation;
- Blankets were given to Partage Notre-Dame;
- Fabrics were given to the Centre d’interprétation de la nature du lac Boivin;
- Food is regularly given to Le Passant
GREEN ACTIONS
Everywhere in the Hotel
- Compact fluo bulbs have been installed where it was possible.
- Recycling bins are available in every room, function rooms and offices.
- Windows and mirrors are cleaned with a mix of water and vinegar.
In the rooms
- Curtains and windows in the rooms are closed to avoid overuse of the air conditioning and heating system.
- Awareness signs have been installed to reduce the quantity of sheets and towels washed everyday.
- A sign prompts customers to turn off all the lights when they check-out. If this is not done, the housekeeping attendant will do so upon entering the room.
- Televisions will turn off automatically when left unattended for an hour.
- Housekeeping attendants only use natural daylight, except in the bathroom.
- When cleaning the rooms, the attendants use the water cautiously in order to avoid all unnecessary waste.
- • Low-flow shower heads have been installed in every room since the Hotel's opening
In the function rooms
- Curtains and windows in function rooms are closed when it's possible, to avoid overuse of the air conditioning and heating system.
- The heating and air conditioning system only works when necessary, that is during events.
- When setting up the function rooms, the housemen only use natural daylight provided by the windows (when it's possible)

In the kitchen
- Surpluses are given out to Le Passant organism.
- Local foods are privileged
- Refrigerator and freezer doors will close automatically to keep the cold inside.
- When possible, food is cooked in small ovens to reduce energy consumption.
- When possible, food is bought in bulk to reduce over-wrapping and the containers are used for other purposes afterwards.
- Cooking oil is disposed of through a specialized business since the Hotel's opening
- The majority of the cleaning products used are biodegradable.
